OWNER/HEAD COACH OF CROSSFIT CURRAHEE
CF-L2 TRAINER
WORKING AGAINST GRAVITY CERTIFIED NUTRITION COACH

My fitness journey started in high school as a wrestler. When I went to college I picked up MMA for a few years. After that most of my exercise was done outdoors backpacking. A few years ago I found a love for Strongman & CrossFit. The initial goal was to be a functionally fit parent/husband, but through training I rediscovered my passion for competing and now train and professionally coach full time.
The only thing I can say I enjoy more than training, is coaching others in pursuit of their goals. I became a CrossFit Trainer so I could help others in their pursuit of health and fitness, or athletic development. My goal as a coach is to provide the best possible programming for everyone, whether their goal is to improve their health or if it's to be a competitive athlete. I want to see them succeed.

LeeAnn Bates

CF L2 TRAINER

I have been an avid “CrossFitter since 2012 in Hammond, LA. After seeing the positive changes CrossFit makes in people’s lives, I decided to pursue my passion by obtaining my Level 1 Trainer designation in July 2014 and my Level 2 Trainer designation in December 2018. I coached for eight years at a CrossFit in McComb, MS.

I’ve found that coaching is one of the most rewarding parts of CrossFit – helping others learn to love the sport is awesome. And coaching also helps me be a better CrossFitter myself. While I enjoy CrossFit classes and competitions - I also love to use my fitness to do other fun things! This includes obstacle course races, ultramarathons, riding in many different types of cycling events, and half ironman distance triathlons. Since I’ve moved to Toccoa, I’ve also added hiking and chasing waterfalls to my list! My favorite saying is “I don’t do CrossFit to get better at CrossFit, I do it to get better a life!”

In addition to being deeply involved with CrossFit, I am currently a licensed EMT in the states of Mississippi and Georgia; and co-owner of IOSIM, Inc. I hold a Bachelor of Music from The University of Southern Mississippi (1993), along with a Masters of Business Administration from USM (1995). My daughter, Madeline, currently lives in Gainesville, GA, and does international mission work through Adventures in Missions.

BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU BLUE BELT

I began my journey into BJJ at the age of 19, and trained for 5 years under Frank Moore. I retired just before achieving my purple belt due to injuries and began training again in December of 2022. To this day I remain a personal student under the tutelage of Mr. Moore, and strive to cultivate among my students the values, mentality and skill sets within the art of Brazilian Jiujitsu that were bestowed upon me by great teachers before me.

SHORIN-RYU KARATE, NIDAN (2ND DEGREE BLACK BELT)
SHORIN-RYU KOBUDO, NIDAN (2ND DEGREE BLACK BELT)

I started my study of Okinawan Shorin-Ryu Karate in 2011 under Sensei Jimmy Newton (Godan, 5th Degree black belt). For a short time I trained with Kyoshi Jerry Taylor (Hachidan, 8th degree black belt). These men shaped who I am as a martial artist and guided me to a deeper understanding of karate. In 2023 I started my own dojo, Kuma RenbuKan (Martial Training Hall of the Bear) under the Shuri-Te Bujutsu-Kai. I’m excited to partner with Crossfit Currahee to bring Traditional Okinawan Karate to Stephens County!
